……..after the proposal

Three months straight and King had been awesome. Why did it take her so long to say yes to this man who must have been created at dawn or in the morning, for all that light He carried and peace He came with?

5 minutes of a conversation with Him led to answers she had searched years for. Being by His side became her safe haven; a place she wished not to share with anyone but was kind enough to talk to others about in case they wanted some help from Him. She actually went a step further by mentioning them to Him too, and the speed with which He offered His help was quite intriguing.

To play her part, Princess did everything she could, to get to know Him so well and to please Him anyway He required. At least, that’s what she thought! What she did not know was the fact that, this serenade was only going to last just a while. It was therefore a big blow to her, when King suddenly started slowing down with how He quickly answered to her whims and qualms.

So many thoughts started running through her mind, and her first emotional decision was to take a walk. Nobody, absolutely nobody, was going to play with her emotions again. Not when the signs on the wall were clear and all the flags were red. But before she left, that man was definitely going to get a piece of her mind.

Moved by emotions that made her eyes teary and filled her veins with venom, she quickly got dressed up in a floral romper suit. She paired it up with a flat pair of beaded sandals and tucked her sunglasses at the end of the gold zip that showed at the front of her suit. She took a few minutes to comb out her 12 inch blunt-cut weave and put on her Coco Chanel “mademoiselle” perfume. She knew she looked and smelt like million dollar doll on a budget. She had over time, built an attitude of striving for excellence in her ways; King had insisted and consistently told her that, choosing to follow Him did not mean she had to look or live a poorly or unkempt life, but rather, she could actually have it all. She was supposed to be regal in her ways; after all, she was His princess and excellence could not be compromised.

Her excellent look however, was doing nothing to reduce the lump that was forming in her throat or the uncomfortable churn she was feeling in her stomach. Her eyes stung with tears and she knew she was a touch away from a massive flood. Why were men always like this? Hunting so hard and discarding their prey like used clothes? Why would King chase after her for years? Why would He cross boundaries for her sake and promise to give her everything she could possibly desire, only to within three months, start breaking her fragile heart that had already suffered so much losses as it were?

They had in the past few months gotten so close that, she knew just where to find Him and what He was likely to be doing. Well, that is if He hadn’t changed His routine without her knowledge. She started her journey to His mansion, the place she was begin to mentally claim as her home. As expected, she found Him quietly seated in His chamber, in a reflective mood and taking stock of His businesses and other assignments.

Seeing Princess, King’s eyes lit up and He smiled. This was as if to say her presence was a welcome intrusion in His crowded thoughts. Not seeing her usual wry and mischievous smile, He got worried and rushed to the couch she had propped herself in.

Before He could say a word, she dropped the news: “King, it’s over. I’ll rather be on my own and at peace than saddled with you and be troubled”. King didn’t see this coming, and so, for a moment He gazed at her in total confusion. It was as if she had just spoken in a foreign tongue, but being multi-lingual, that shouldn’t have been a problem. Gathering His thoughts after a while, He calmly asked her why, although His trait of being all knowing meant He had an idea what the problem could be.

Blabbing and crying at the same time, Princess went on and on about how tired she felt, how He had changed and how she thought He was being selfish. He smiled, took in a deep breath and hugged her; she resisted and fought Him but He held on till she succumbed. When her sobs quietened down and she seemed ready to listen, He reminded her of their walk in the park and of what He had told her. She clearly had her own impressions of what a relationship with Him should be, and any alter in her imaginations led to her cries of foul play. Yes, He remembers promising her the world, because it was His to give and He stood for excellence and prosperity. But He needed her to understand timing with Him was important. Very important. She could afford to have everything she wanted initially because she was then still a baby, but as it stood now, with all the effort she had put in, she had reached a stage where He wanted to hand over more responsibilities and rewards to her. She had to be groomed, so as to be able to handle and manage the blessings and the pressure they came with.

“Pressure from where?” she enquired. Hands still wrapped around her, He said “The enemy, my Princess is going around like a roaring lion. He seeks to destroy you anyway He can, but I gave you my word that I’ll protect you. Let me keep my word the best way I know how. Just remember my promises and do your humanly bit to achieve them, don’t try leaving my side either and you’ll be just fine.”

Not yet convinced, she looked at Him with suspicion and asked why He kept long to answer her requests. In response, He gave out a soft laugh and asked, “who determines when too long is? Stop setting or trying to give me timelines my dear, you’ll only keep hurting yourself. In my time, I’ll make all things beautiful. Just trust me”, He said.

“Anyway, I have a surprise for you”, He suddenly said to break the awkward silence that had ensued. Feeling shy and not able to keep eye contact, Princess played with the edge of her romper suit, wondering what the surprise could be. Teasingly, King ruffled her hair, gave a soft chuckle and pulled her off the coach in the direction of the kitchen.

Feeling the butterflies in her stomach, she looked at Him and wondered how could she ever stay mad at such a man? She was a helpless romantic and He knew just how to love her right.

This relationship was definitely a match made in heaven, and until their next big fight, she was going to be here, enjoying every bit of their journey………
